BELTON, Texas -- Will Crumly scored a career-high 33 points and registered a double-double for a second straight game, but the Covenant men's basketball team fell to Louisiana College, 78-71, on Saturday afternoon to conclude the Cru Holiday Classic, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Covenant falls to 5-5 on the year, while Louisiana College improves to 10-1. It was the first all-time meeting between the programs.

Crumly's 33 points are a career-high and the most scored by a Scot since TJ Cox dropped 34 against Birmingham Southern on Dec. 12, 2015. The sophomore added 10 rebounds for a double-double as he shot 12-of-22 from the field with five 3-pointers. Over the two games at the Cru Holiday Classic, Crumly averaged 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds.

Louisiana College used an 8-0 run in the first half to take a 20-12 lead with 9:41 remaining. Despite Crumly scoring 17 points in the opening period, Covenant found itself down by 12, 39-27, at the break. Louisiana College shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and made eight 3-pointers.

In the second half, the Wildcats held a 10-point lead with over 14 minutes left before Covenant made its run. The Scots rattled off an 11-0 scoring run as Crumly scored nine straight during the stretch and a Daevon Platt layup gave Covenant a 53-52 lead with 10:13 to go. Louisiana College regained the lead shortly after and the teams traded baskets over the next several minutes.

An old-fashioned three-point play from Bailey Spragg got the Scots within 67-66 at the 2:41 mark. Covenant had opportunities to tie the game in its ensuing possessions, but Louisiana College held on and then made free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Mitchell Hollis added 13 points, while Spragg had eight points and nine assists for the Scots. Noah Oetjen contributed nine points and five rebounds off the bench and Platt finished with five points. The Scots shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field with 11 3-pointers and 8-for-8 at the free throw line.

Louisiana College shot 50 percent (29-of-58) for the game with 10 triples. Jaylen Rhone had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Wildcats, while Kae'ron Baker had 16 points and Denzel Austin 14.
