LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's basketball team came up just short in its home opener against Centre in a 69-66 loss on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center.

The loss was just the second for Covenant (0-2) inside Barnes PE Center since the start of last season. Bailey Spragg led the Scots with 20 points while Will Crumly had 19.

The teams went back and forth for the first half with over seven minutes of an even score. The half saw seven lead changes until Covenant grabbed the lead on a Spragg jumper with 2:45 remaining in the period. The Scots extended the lead to five and entered the half with a 33-29 advantage.

The beginning of the second half was more back-and-forth. With 3:16 to play, the visiting Colonels jumped out to a 63-57 lead. However, the Scots rallied and a three-point play by Crumly gave Covenant a 64-63 edge with 1:36 left on the clock. Centre took back the lead, but with one minute to go, a Spragg layup gave Covenant the lead again at 66-65.

Two late fouls and four made free throws gave the Colonels a 69-66 lead. In the last minute the Scots were unable to sink several three-point attempts.

Spragg shot a blazing 89 percent from the floor (8-of-9). Crumly added eight rebounds to his 19 points. Noah Oetjen came off the bench to chip in eight and Jared Jauch had seven points and four assists. Covenant shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field.

Centre out-rebounded Covenant 36-27. The Colonels were led by Tucker Sine's 15 points and Art Walker's 14 points and eight rebounds. Centre connected on 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the floor and 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
