FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For a second time this season Covenant men's basketball freshman forward Will Crumly has been named USA South Rookie of the Week, as the league announced its weekly award winners for the period ending Jan. 7 on Monday.
Crumly was also honored with the award on Dec. 4. It marks the third consecutive season that a Covenant freshman has earned multiple conference rookie of the week awards as Bailey Spragg (2015-16) and Caleb Haynes (2016-17) both accomplished the feat over the last two years.
A freshman from Marietta, Ga., Crumly averaged 10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game as the Scots posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 95-59 loss at Maryville, Crumly totaled three points, four rebounds and one steal. In an 86-77 win over Huntingdon on Saturday, Crumly just missed a double-double as he tallied 17 points with a career-high nine rebounds and two blocks.
For the year, Crumly is averaging 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 47.8 percent from the field.
Covenant (7-4, 3-1 USA South) will hit the road for two USA South games next weekend. The first is a trip to Danville, Va., to face Averett on Friday, Jan. 12. Tip-off at the Grant Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
