Haynes Commits to Covenant Men's Basketball

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Caleb Haynes, a senior from Section High School (Sand Mountain, Ala.), has committed to attend Covenant College and play basketball for head coach Kyle Taylor starting in the fall of 2016.

Haynes is a 6-foot-5 forward who led his team to 26-6 record along with area and region championships and a berth in Alabama 2A Final Four this past year. For his stellar senior season, Haynes garnered many awards, including Tournament MVP in both the area and regional tournaments as well as making the All-State team for Alabama Class 2A.

"I only had Caleb for one year," said Jamie Pruett, Haynes' high school coach. "He came in and solidified our team. The year before we were an average team, but his play on both offense and defense made us a much improved team and enabled us to have the great run that we had in the end. While he's talented, he's also such a good kid who is very unselfish both on and off the court."

"It has always been a dream of mine to play college basketball," Haynes said. "I really liked the team and the thought of getting to play for a coach like Coach Taylor really played a big part in my college decision. I'm looking forward to coming to Covenant in the fall."

Taylor added, "Caleb is one of those players that doesn't come along too often. Heading into this offseason our biggest need was to find some quality forwards and post players that could step immediately into our rotation and contribute. That is difficult to find at any level, but we have been blessed with a couple of great recruits, including Caleb. Caleb is a skilled post, who has a knack for the ball, good size, toughness, and is a coach's kid. He's been taught the fundamentals of the game by his father, Coach Haynes, and is tenacious. He can score, rebound, and pass, and at 6-foot-5 you can't ask for anything more than that. We are pumped that he has selected Covenant College."

While averaging a double-double on the court with 17 points and 10 rebounds a game, Haynes also had success in the classroom. He graduated with Honors from Section and was a member of the Beta Club. Haynes is the son of Glen and Tammy Haynes.
