FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- After a career-high scoring performance, Covenant men's basketball senior TJ Cox has been named USA South Player of the Week, announced the conference on Monday.
Cox is the first Covenant basketball player to pick up a weekly conference honor this season. It's also the first weekly accolade in Cox's collegiate career.
The 5-foot-10 senior guard from Charlotte, N.C., scored a career-high 34 points to go along with three assists in Covenant's 96-81 win over Birmingham Southern on Saturday. Cox went 10-of-16 from the field, 6-of-8 from behind the 3-point line and 8-of-9 at the free throw line. He scored 16 of his points in the first half and then knocked down two 3-pointers late in the second half to seal the victory for the Scots.
On the year, Cox leads the team in scoring at 17.5 points per game (third best in the USA South) and is shooting 48.1 percent from 3-point land. He also ranks second in the USA South in total assists with 36 on the year (4.5 per game).
