CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's basketball team showed plenty of promise in a 91-63 exhibition loss at Division I Chattanooga on Friday night inside McKenzie Arena.
The contest counted as an exhibition for both teams. It was one of two exhibition games scheduled for the Scots before they open the season on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Covenant played with the Southern Conference's Mocs through the first half. A 3-pointer from Ben Phelps trimmed the Scots' deficit to 19-17 with 11:39 left in the first half. Chattanooga would pull away and take a 51-29 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Scots kept pace with the Mocs. Covenant made 15-of-17 free throws in the second half and limited Chattanooga to 38.9 percent shooting from the field.
Chattanooga put five players in double figures led by 15 points from Justin Tuoyo.
Covenant travels to Lynchburg, Va., on Friday, Nov. 13 for an exhibition game against Division I Liberty. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
