Morris Commits to Covenant, Men's Basketball

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Jake Morris, a senior at Lambert High School (Suwanee, Ga.), has committed to attend Covenant College and play basketball for head coach Kyle Taylor starting in the fall of 2015.

Morris was a four-year starter on the varsity team at Lambert under head coach Scott Bracco. The 6-foot-2 guard scored 889 career points and averaged 9.8 points per game in his senior year. Morris holds the school record for assists in a career, season and game. He was a two-time all-region selection and was the first player in Forsyth County and Region 6A to record 500 points, rebounds and assists in a career.

"I am excited and honored to be a part of Covenant College basketball," Morris said. "I'm so impressed with the program, school and the coaches. God put me here for a reason and I am going to work hard to glorify Him. I can't imagine a more perfect place to serve and I appreciate the opportunity that Covenant has given me."

Morris led his team to the GHSA Sweet 16 in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015 and a Region 6A championship this past year. Lambert made three straight appearances in the GHSA 6A state tournament during his career. Morris was a part of 81 victories (81-34 overall), including a 24-6 mark in his senior year, the most for a player in school history.

"With Jake Morris, Covenant College is getting an outstanding individual that will carry himself in a positive manner on and off the court," Bracco stated. "Jake is a well-rounded person which will help him succeed in life. He has a high character and is always focused with the task at hand."

"Jake is the prototypical point guard for us at Covenant," Taylor said. "He is a bigger point guard with good size, creative in the open court, an excellent passer, and a very capable scorer. Jake has played for an incredible high school coach and program and has great fundamentals and an excellent feel for the game. He has played outstanding competition and knows what it takes to be successful and win. We are very excited to welcome Jake to the Covenant basketball family."

Morris is interested in pursuing a Music degree at Covenant. He is the son of Joe and Tracy Morris.
