LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Nick Palmer, a senior at Pinecrest Academy (Cumming, Ga.), has committed to attend Covenant College and play basketball for head coach Kyle Taylor beginning in the fall of 2015.
Palmer was a four-year letterwinner for the Paladins and head coach Jay Lynch. The 5-foot-10 guard scored 1,001 career points and was a two-time all-region and all-county selection.
"It's a dream come true to play college basketball and I believe Covenant is a perfect fit for me," Palmer said. "I can't wait for four years of great success at Covenant both on and off the court."
Palmer holds several school records at Pinecrest including the mark for most 3-pointers made in a game (8), season (74) and career (169). The guard also dished out a school record 88 assists in a season and had 223 for his career.
"Nick was one of the hardest working players on the court," Lynch said of Palmer. "He loved the basketball team and poured his heart into being the best player and person he could be. I am proud to have coached Nick and look forward to watching his continued growth as a servant leader and man of virtue in the years to come."
"Nick is going to have an incredible impact on our basketball program at Covenant over the next four years, and I am so thankful that he has chosen to play here," Taylor said. "Nick is an excellent 3-point shooter with deep range, who can also put it on the deck and attack the basket. He competes, works incredibly hard, and is a leader both on and off the court."
Palmer ranked fifth in his graduating class with a GPA of 4.1. He is a National Honor Society Vice President and member of the Math, Spanish, Science and History Honor Societies and is an AP Scholar with Distinction. Palmer plans to major in Biology. He is the son of Tim and Jackie Palmer.
