FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Despite falling to LaGrange in the regular season finale on Saturday, the Covenant men's basketball team has qualified for the USA South tournament. The Scots earned the No. 8 seed in the eight-team field and will face tournament host, and No. 1 seed, Averett at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 in Danville, Virginia.
The Scots finished league play with a 7-7 record, 9-16 overall, and were one of four teams with identical conference marks, one of which would be left out. Due to tiebreaking procedures, Covenant advances to the tournament by virtue of defeating North Carolina Wesleyan back on Jan. 16 on Lookout Mountain.
Covenant and Averett met on Jan. 3 in Danville and the host Cougars took a 72-57 victory. Averett (17-8, 11-3 USA South) has won both meetings between the schools since Covenant joined the conference.
The tournament will be played in its entirety in Danville at Averett University's Grant Center from Feb. 26-28. For complete tournament information, visit the official tournament page here
