LaGrange Blows Past Scots in Season Finale

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Chris Boyd had 10 points and nine rebounds, but the Covenant men's basketball team dropped a 97-58 decision to visiting LaGrange on Saturday afternoon in the 2013-14 season finale for the Scots.

Covenant finishes the year with an overall record of 8-17 and 3-11 inside the USA South. LaGrange improves to 15-9 overall and 9-4 in league play as they look toward the conference tournament next week.

Boyd and Teron Ferguson were the two bright spots on an otherwise tough day for the Scots. Boyd had 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Ferguson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. 

Covenant shot just 27.7 percent (23-of-83) for the game and 6-of-28 from behind the 3-point line. LaGrange was 33-of-70 from the field (47.1 percent) and made 11-of-21 3-pointers.

Mark Wagner led five players in double figure scoring for the visiting Panthers with 18 points. Patrick Dugger had 13 points and seven rebounds. Nick Mitchell also tallied 13 points with seven rebounds and two assists. Dustin Baxter and Denzel Robinson each had 11 points.

LaGrange took advantage of Covenant mistakes throughout the game as they turned 22 Scots turnovers into 29 points. The Panthers bult a 38-24 halftime lead and continued to extend that margin in the second half.
