FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For the second consecutive week, men's basketball junior Colton McGriff has been named USA South Player of the Week, announced the league on Monday morning.
McGriff was also the recipient of the weekly honor last week.
The junior from Birmingham, Ala., put together another strong week as he averaged 19.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game to lead the Scots to a 1-1 record. In a 74-64 loss to Birmingham Southern on Friday, McGriff scored 13 points while pulling down a new career-high 14 rebounds. A day later, McGriff scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals to lead Covenant to a 94-90 overtime win over Berry.
The two double-doubles on the week gives McGriff four on the season and three straight going back to December 7 at Bethany Lutheran. McGriff is averaging 19.3 points and 8.6 rebounds on the year leading the Scots to a 5-5 overall record heading into Christmas Break.
Covenant returns to play on Friday, January 3 at home against USA South foe Ferrum. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
