FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Men's basketball junior forward Colton McGriff has been selected as the USA South Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced the league on Monday afternoon.
The honor is the first for the junior from Birmingham, Ala.
McGriff averaged 22.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest last week as the Scots went 1-2. He had 12 points and three rebounds in a loss at Emory before compiling big numbers during a weekend trip to Minnesota. Against Crown (Minn.) on Friday, the junior tallied 21 points and six rebounds as Covenant suffered a narrow 79-77 loss. McGriff capped his week with a career game against Bethany Lutheran leading the Scots to a 94-76 win with 35 points, on 14-of-24 shooting, and 11 rebounds. The double-double was his second of the year.
McGriff is leading Covenant (4-4) on the season with 19.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. His 19.2 points per game is second in the USA South.
Covenant returns to Barnes Physical Education Center on Friday when they host Birmingham Southern. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
