  • Scots' Season Ends on Double Overtime Loss to Montreat in First Round of AAC Tournament

    The Scots saw their 2008-2009 season come to an end Wednesday night in a loss to the Montreat College Cavaliers. Losing by a score of 77-87 in double overtime, Covenant played hard but couldn't hang on for the duration of the contest and pick up the win. They went into halftime with a thirteen point lead, up 40-27, but saw the score flip-flop in the second half before heading to the game's first overtime period. After each team scored six points, the game went to a second overtime where the Cavaliers pulled away, outscoring the Scots by ten and ultimately taking the game.

    The Scots played well in a Saturday night game against Bluefield College, actually outscoring the Rams in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 19-point halftime deficit, losing 90-108.

    Covenant scored just sixteen first-half points on the way to a 75-60 loss to the University of Virginia at Wise Wednesday night. The Scots did improve as the game went on, scoring 44 in the second half, but it was already too late as UVA-Wise grabbed the lead early and never looked back.
  • Taylor Collects Double-Double in Loss to Maryville

    Scoring a season-high fourteen points and collecting ten rebounds, freshman Matt Taylor had his best game of the season but it couldn't help Covenant to a victory as they lost 76-93.

    31 points from sophomore guard Davis Eldridge was not enough for the Scots to top the host Bulldogs of Union College Saturday, as they lost by a score of 70-94.
  • Scots Lose Nail-Biter to Montreat at Home

    The Scots lost a heartbreaker Wednesday night to the Cavaliers of Montreat College, losing 66-63 after leading virtually the entire game. A last ditch attempt to tie the game and send it to overtime by sophomore Davis Eldridge came up short as Covenant fell to 2-24 on the season and 1-14 in conference play.

    A depleted Covenant squad, playing in its first game since the news of senior leader Chris Hall's season-ending injury, struggled offensively and lost big to the Buffaloes of Milligan College Wednesday night, 47-92.

    The host Scots shot 31% from the field and scored just eighteen points in the first half of a loss to Bryan College Saturday night. They shot 51% and scored 34 points in the second half and even cut the Lions' lead to as little as ten with a late-game comeback attempt, but it wasn't enough as Covenant fell 52-66.

    The Scots held a three point lead going into halftime but it was all downhill from there as they lost by 24 to the Tornado of King College. With a final score of 68-92, Covenant, playing without senior guard Reed Crosson, was outscored by 27 in the second half before falling to 1-21 on the season.

    The Scots traveled to Dayton Wednesday night to take on the rival Bryan College Lions but lost, falling to 0-3 in the AAC this year. Covenant struggled immensely from the field throughout the game, shooting just 24 percent, including 3-15 from three-point range. They also made just five of their eight free throws as Bryan was able to capitalize and run away with it early.

    The Scots traveled to Oakwood University to take on the Ambassadors in their fourth non-conference game of the year. A packed Oakwood gym fell quiet as the Scots hit 10-21 from behind the arc on the night for a season high of 48% from three. Covenant also had great pressure all night forcing Oakwood into 29 turnovers highlighted by three steals by sophomore Dominique McGaughhey. It wasn't enough, however, as the Scots ultimately fell by a final score of 87-71.

    Facing NCAA Division I competition, the Scots gave their opponents a run for their money this evening in Birmingham. Despite a fourteen point loss, the Scots played well in a game that could have been seen as a potential blowout in favor of the Bulldogs on paper.

    The Scots played well tonight, but lost to a solid Berry sqaud at home this evening. The victims of a misleading final score, the Scots had the game close numerous times, even cutting Berry's lead down to four with just under ten minutes left, but watched Berry extend their lead from the free-throw line after having to foul in the final minutes.
