ROME, Ga. -- After a record-breaking game last week, Covenant baseball sophomore Andrew Brock was named the USA South Player of the Week, for the period ending on March 15, announced the league on Monday.
It is the first career weekly honor for Brock and he is the first Covenant player to collect Player of the Week honors from the USA South this year. He joins Kenny Mills (Rookie of the Week, March 9) as Scots who received weekly honors from the USA South this season.
A sophomore from Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., Brock went 4-for-5 with single-game program records with seven RBIs and four doubles. Brock's four doubles tied a USA South single-game record as well. The sophomore reached base in five straight at-bats, and capped the win with a two-run double in the sixth inning to break Covenant game records for doubles and RBIs.
Brock ended the abbreviated season with a .444 batting average, one home run, 11 RBIs, eight runs scored, and two stolen bases.
Covenant (11-4, 6-0 USA South), along with the rest of the USA South, had the rest of its season cancelled last week out of an abundance of caution related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) that is currently sweeping the globe.
