LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Andrew Brock had a single-game program record seven RBIs and four doubles and the Covenant baseball team scored over 20 runs for the second time in five games as the Scots routed visiting Iowa Wesleyan, 26-2, on Tuesday afternoon.
Brock finished 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and three runs scored in the victory. The sophomore's program record four doubles helped the Scots to a team program record 10 doubles on the day. Brock's seven RBIs surpassed the previous program record of six, which four players had accomplished, including Trevor Grapenthin last Friday vs. Averett.
Covenant (11-4) has been supplying offense at a historic pace over the last week. The Scots have scored 77 runs in a five-game stretch going back to March 4 and have won three run-rule games during that time. The Scots are off to their best 15-game start to a season since 2013.
The Scots scored in every inning, including nine runs in the fifth.
Covenant scored four runs in both the first and second innings to build an 8-0 lead. Tyler Moore put the Scots on the board with a two-out RBI single in the first that scored Alex Gonzalez. Brooks DuBose capped the first inning with a two-run homer to left field, his second of the year, to make it 4-0. In the second, Moore drew a bases loaded walk and Josh Harvey stretched the lead to 8-0 with a two-run double.
After the Scots scored a run in the third, the hosts tacked on six runs in the fourth. Brock cleared the bases with a three-run double and Grapenthin followed with an RBI double of his own. CJ Edmond highlighted the frame with a long home run to right field, a two-run shot, to make it 15-0. The homer was Edmond's team-leading third of the year.
In the nine-run fifth inning, Kenny Mills and Grapenthin had RBI hits to kick off the stanza. Max Wilson delivered a three-run double and Carson Kindred also collected an RBI hit. Brock finished off the frame with a double down the left field line that plated two runs to make it 24-2.
Brock wrapped up the scoring in the sixth with his fourth double of the game, this time a hard grounder down the right field line that brought home a pair of runs.
Harvey had four hits with three runs and two RBIs, while Grapenthin went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs, and three runs and Edmond was 1-for-4 with three RBIs. DuBose and Joseph Ridenour each had two hits for the Scots, with DuBose driving in two. Covenant had 24 hits in the game.
Nick Pettit (2-2) once again got tremendous run support and cruised through five innings to collect his second win of the year. Pettit went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Ross Skipper and Conor Austin tossed scoreless innings to complete the win.
Joseph Morrison (0-1) got the loss for Iowa Wesleyan (1-2). Levi Avery hit a solo homer for the visiting Tigers and Cole Turman had an RBI double in the loss.
