LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Following a standout week at the plate, Covenant baseball sophomore Hunter Christian was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, for the period ending March 1, announced the website on Wednesday.

Christian becomes the second Scot to garner the national award this year, joining Tyler Moore (Feb. 19). It is the first career weekly award for Christian.

A shortstop from Bostwick, Ga., Christian batted .545 (6-for-11), with a slugging percentage of .909, with a home run, four RBIs, and five runs scored for the Scots last week against Birmingham Southern and Emory. Against Birmingham Southern last Tuesday, Christian went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in a 7-6 loss to the nationally-ranked Panthers. He then went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBIs in a loss to Emory last Friday before going a combined 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in a doubleheader split with Emory last Saturday.

On the year, Christian is hitting .412 with a home run, 13 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. Christian has three multi-hit games this year, including a pair of three-hit games, along with four multi-RBI contests.

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.

Covenant (7-4, 3-0 USA South) returns to USA South action on Friday in game one of a three-game series with Averett at home. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
