ROME, Ga. -- Covenant baseball senior outfielder John Mitchell was named to the All-USA South second team, while junior Ken Alexander was the Scots' representative on the All-Sportsmanship team, as the conference unveiled its season awards on Wednesday.

All honors were determined by votes from the baseball coach at each institution.

Mitchell, a senior from Macon, Ga., collects his first career All-USA South honor. The senior has put together a career year this season with a .341 batting average to go with three home runs, 42 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. Mitchell currently ranks fifth in the conference in RBIs and is tied for first in steals with Piedmont's Brady Ballstadt, who was named the league's Player of the Year. Mitchell's RBI total is currently tied for fourth-best in a single-season in program history, while his steal number is tied for second all-time.

Mitchell was named USA South Player of the Week on Monday after batting .542 with a home run, 10 RBIs, nine runs scored, and five steals in a 4-1 week for the Scots. The outfielder is on an 11-game hitting streak and is batting .475 in the month of April as he helped Covenant qualify for the USA South Tournament. He has 11 multi-hit games this season, including a team-best three four-hit games, and leads the team with 12 multi-RBI games.

Alexander, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., gained his first All-Sportsmanship nod. The junior catcher has played in 27 games, making 24 starts, and produced seven RBIs and nine runs scored for the season. Behind the plate, Alexander has been strong, as he has thrown out 10 would-be base stealers for the season.

Ballstadt was named the league's Player of the Year, while LaGrange's Austin Fain was the Pitcher of the Year. Pfeiffer freshman Bryce Marsh earned Rookie of the Year and Huntingdon's Tucker Duke was the Rookie Pitcher of the Year. Piedmont head coach Justin Scali garnered Coach of the Year honors.

Covenant (16-20, 9-13 USA South) is the No. 8 seed in the USA South Tournament. The Scots take on No. 1 seeded Piedmont on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange, Ga. For a preview and tournament info, click here
