LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant baseball team's comeback fell short on Tuesday afternoon, 8-6, against Berry on Lookout Mountain.

The Scots knotted things up at five as Tyler Moore doubled to left center to score John Mitchell.

Berry (25-12) was then able to put up three runs in the top of the eighth with a pair of doubles to take an 8-5 lead.

Then, with two outs in the ninth Mitchell hit a solo home run to left to cut the lead to two but the Scots could not get anything else across to fall 8-6.

The Vikings got things rolling in the third scoring two quick runs on an RBI groundout and a one-run single.

Mitchell got Covenant (14-20) on the board later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to left to score Tommy Easley to cut the lead in half.

In the fourth, Hunter Cole hit a three-run shot to extend the Berry lead 5-1 after four innings of play.

The Scots slowly chipped away scoring four unanswered over the next three innings to even things up. Hunter Christian singled in Brooks DuBose in the fifth and DuBose turned around and hit into an RBI fielder's choice to score Alex Gonzalez to cut the lead to two.

In the seventh Mitchell hit a one-run single to score Christian before Moore came to the plate to double in a run to tie things up at five to set up the final innings.

Mitchell paced the Scot offense going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and scored twice. Christian had a 2-for-3 day with an RBI while Morre and DuBose had one RBI each.

Tyrique Wilmore got the start on the hill and went three innings, allowing two hits, two runs, and a walk. Conor Austin came in relief and only lasted two innings with four hits, three runs, walked two and struck out four.

Ross Skipper came in and was effective in two innings of work allowing just one hit, one walk while striking out three batters. Warner Adcock (1-1) was tagged at the loss going the final two innings, allowing five hits and three runs.

Spence Johns had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a pair of RBIs. Weston Bray went 2-for-3, Devin Post had a 2-for-5 day to match Casey Whitaker. Cole led the Vikings with three RBIs as Zack Walch and Johns had two RBIs each.
