ROME, Ga. -- Covenant baseball freshman Brett Kernodle was named the USA South Rookie of the Week for the period ending on April 7, announced the conference on Monday.
Kernodle is the first Covenant baseball player to garner a weekly award this season. He also becomes the first player to win Rookie of the Week honors since the 2015 season.
A freshman from Little Rock, Ark., Kernodle batted .500 (5-for-10) with an on-base percentage of .545, and a slugging percentage of .600, to go along with two RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base in three games played last week. Kernodle was 2-for-4 with a run, walk, and stolen base in a 9-8 loss to Berry last Tuesday. In two games against No. 17 Piedmont, Kernodle went 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.
On the year, Kernodle is hitting .296 with six RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has five multi-hit games and is currently riding a four-game hitting streak.
Covenant (12-18, 5-12 USA South) had its road game at Sewanee on Tuesday cancelled. The Scots will be back in action this weekend at Brevard.
