FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant baseball freshman pitcher Adam Carver was selected as the USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week, for the period ending March 4, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.

Carver is the first baseball player to earn a weekly conference accolade this season.

The freshman from Lawrenceville, Ga., went 0-1 last week with a save and a 0.00 ERA over 5.1 innings to help the Scots to a 3-1 week. Carver made his first start in last Tuesday's 9-7 loss to Berry and went two innings allowing three hits, but did not surrender an earned run in the defeat. The right-hander collected a save in Covenant's 11-3 victory at Berea on Saturday as he threw the final 3.1 innings, his longest outing of the year, and gave up just two hits with two strikeouts.

For the year, Carver has made five appearances, four in relief, and compiled a 2-1 record with one save and a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings.

Covenant (7-7, 5-1 USA South) travels to NCAA Division II member Carson-Newman on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. The Scots then return home for a three-game USA South series against Piedmont beginning on Thursday.
