LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant baseball team could not crack the win column on Tuesday as the Scots dropped the 2018 home opener to visiting Oglethorpe, 14-0, on a chilly, overcast afternoon.
The loss drops Covenant to 0-3 on the year, while Oglethorpe (3-0) completed the three-game sweep of the Scots.
Oglethorpe took advantage of 15 walks and three hit batters to pull away for the victory. The Stormy Petrels scored in the top of the first on Adrian Celata's RBI single before scoring three runs in both the third and fourth innings to build a 7-0 edge. A six-run seventh inning cemented the win for Oglethorpe.
Covenant was held to just two hits by four Oglethorpe pitchers. Joel Johnson singled in the first inning and Ken Alexander recorded his first collegiate hit in the fifth for the two Scots hits on the day.
Tristen Green (0-1) made his collegiate debut on the mound for the Scots and went 2.2 innings. Covenant used seven relievers on the day, including the pitching debuts of Adam Carver and Alex Gonzalez.
Noah Cole (0-1) received the win for Oglethorpe as he tossed four innings and allowed one hit with four strikeouts. Celata finished 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Stormy Petrels, while Andrew Mink and Matt Motz had two hits apiece.
