LaGrange Ousts Baseball from USA South Tournament

WILSON, N.C. -- The Covenant baseball team was eliminated from the USA South Tournament on Friday with an 11-0 loss to LaGrange at Fleming Stadium.

Covenant drops to 20-17 overall on the year and will finish the season with four regular season games next week on the road. LaGrange (28-12) moves on in the tournament and will face Averett later on Friday.

LaGrange scored two runs in the first off Covenant starter Matt Reitz with a pair of RBI singles. The Panthers then added three runs in the third and two more in both the fifth and sixth innings to open the game up.

Julien Amorelli went 2-for-3 to lead the Scots, while Luke Harvey, Caleb Bloye and Z Arima had one hit apiece. Reitz (2-6) went 4.2 innings in his start.

LaGrange starter Ryan Broaderick (8-2) tossed six shutout innings allowing three hits. Blane Swift was 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, while Jacob Gassert went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the victory for the Panthers.


Covenant will travel to Berry on Tuesday for a makeup game from Feb. 24. First pitch in Rome, Ga., is set for 6 p.m.
