FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant baseball senior Scott Gillespie was named USA South Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
Gillespie becomes the first Covenant player to earn a weekly baseball honor this year.
The senior outfielder from Milton, Georgia, batted .750 (6-for-8) with five RBIs, two stolen bases and one run scored in Covenant's three-game sweep of Emory & Henry over the weekend. Gillespie went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the Scots' 3-1 win on Friday. He then went a combined 4-for-5 with two RBIs, two walks and two stolen bases in Covenant's two wins (6-0 and 7-5) on Saturday.

Covenant (3-0) takes its perfect record into this weekend's home conference series against Methodist. Game one is set for Friday at 2 p.m., while Saturday will feature a doubleheader with the first game starting at 11 a.m.
