Cleland Tabbed USA South Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Following an impressive weekend, Covenant second baseman Will Cleland has been named USA South Player of the Week, announced the league on Monday afternoon.

The honor is the third weekly award Covenant has won this season. Jordan Lester (Rookie Pitcher of the Week) and Garrett Kriston (Pitcher of the Week) also earned honors earlier this year.

Cleland batted .474 (9-for-19) with three RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and three triples last week to lead Covenant to a 3-1 record. The junior from Jacksonville, Fla., led the Scots to a three-game sweep of USA South foe Piedmont by going 8-for-14 over the weekend. Cleland was 4-for-5 in the second game of the series, an 11-8 Covenant win, with a school and USA South record three triples.

For the season, Cleland is third in the conference with a .417 average to go along with 10 RBIs, 12 runs and 12 stolen bases.
