LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Junior outfielder David Lockwood and sophomore starting pitcher Micah Mabe each earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-South Region 3rd Team honors.
This marks the second straight year that Covenant has been represented on the team. Former Scot James Rollins was recognized on the squad a season ago.
Lockwood put together another oustanding year. The junior from Conyers, Ga., was second on the team with a .349 batting average to go along with 14 doubles, five triples, and two homers. He drove in 37 runs and scored 40. He accumulated 21 multi-hit games and had a hitting streak of 16 during the year. Lockwood went 8-for-17 in the Mid-East region tournament as he helped Covenant get to the NCCAA World Series for the first time. Lockwood was also named an NCCAA Mid-East Region honorable mention.
For Mabe, it is his third postseason award of the year. The lefty was also named to the Mid-East Region 1st team and was selected as a 2nd Team NCCAA All-American.
Mabe was tremendous on the mound all season long. The sophomore from Cumming, Ga., went 7-3 with a 2.43 earned run average in 12 starts. In 74 innings of work, Mabe struck out 69 and walked just 16 while holding opponents to a .208 batting average. In addition, Mabe set a Covenant modern era record with 13 strikeouts in a complete-game victory over LaGrange on April 19. He added four complete-games and had one combined shutout.
Covenant finished the season at the NCCAA World Series with a record of 28-19.
