Perry comes to Covenant this semester as one of many freshman joining the Scots baseball team this season. Prior to Covenant, Perry played baseball for his high school and several travel teams. One of his career highlights was going to the PG National Showcase. In the summer of 2012, Perry batted a .415 with 8 doubles, 5 triples, and 6 home runs in 25 games. In his senior year, he also played baseball for the ECB Braves.
During his high school career and summer baseball experience, Perry has earned numerous accolades and awards. He played in the South Prospect League and been on the East Cobb Braves since the spring of 2012. Twice he has been named a Bobby Valentine All-American, while being named captain of the squad and claiming the top defensive award in 2010. He also earned Under Armour Preseason All-American recognition in 2011.
Perry was invited to play in Perfect Game’s Junior National (2010) and National (2011) showcases. In 2011, Rigby was also named to the Top Prospect Team at the Perfect Game Main Event and a top prospect at the Perfect Game Southeast Underclass Showcase.
Perfect Games had Perry ranked as the 13th-best high school player in the state of Alabama and the 274th best high school player in America. Perry had committed to play baseball at Alabama-Birmingham, but decided to transfer after the fall 2012 semester.
His parents are Tom (played baseball at USM) and Linda (played in the USM band) Rigby. He has an older sister, Sarah. When he is not playing baseball, Perry enjoys playing badminton and the piano. One of his favorite Bible verses is Philippians 1:21 which says, "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain."
Perry is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. After graduating from Covenant, he hopes to play pro baseball and coach.
