Sneller Earns USA South Rookie Runner of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant men's cross country freshman Micah Sneller has been named USA South Rookie Runner of the Week, announced the conference on Monday, Sept. 21.
The freshman from Lancaster, Pa., was Covenant's top finisher for a second consecutive week as he placed 72nd out of 147 runners at the University of North Georgia Invitational on Saturday. Sneller completed the 8k course in a time of 29:48.7, helping the Scots to a 13th place team finish in the event. FULL STORY
Ginny Moore Tabbed USA South Player of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant volleyball sophomore Ginny Moore has been named USA South Player of the Week, announced the conference on Monday, Sept. 21.
The sophomore outside hitter from Fort Myers, Fla., averaged 4.50 kills, with a .268 hitting percentage and 3.10 digs per set as the Lady Scots posted a 2-1 record last week against USA South competition. FULL STORY
Soccer Teams Garner NSCAA Team Academic Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its college and high school soccer program Team Academic awards on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and both Covenant programs were recognized.
Covenant was one of 208 institutions that had both men's and women's programs recognized. Additionally, Covenant was one of two USA South members, along with Piedmont, to have both programs earn distinction. FULL STORY
BY THE NUMBERS:
.588: Hitting percentage on the week for volleyball senior Chelsea VanDyk. VanDyk averaged 4.82 kills per set and had 53 total in 11 sets during the week, while making just three attack errors. She hit .609 vs. Piedmont and then .615 against No. 21 Berry, both numbers are the highest marks for a Covenant player over the last eight years.
2: Women's soccer freshman keeper Rachel Lemay recorded her second complete shutout of the year in Saturday's 1-0 win at Ferrum. Lemay had allowed just five goals in nearly 500 minutes at the net in her rookie year.
3: Both soccer teams have defeated Ferrum in all three meetings between the programs since Covenant joined the USA South in 2013. The women kept the streak alive with a 1-0 win on Saturday, while the men were 2-1 winners.
THE ROAD AHEAD:
Covenant will be competing in the Maryville College Invitational on Oct. 3.
Covenant hosts Piedmont on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to LaGrange on Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Lady Scots also host Piedmont on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before facing LaGrange on the road on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Covenant will begin ITA Regionals play on Friday in Murfreesboro. The tournament extends into Saturday.
The Lady Scots face regional foe Sewanee at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Covenant faces LaGrange and Huntingdon in a quad-match on Saturday in Montgomery, Ala.
