BY THE NUMBERS:
9: Baseball senior pitcher Jonah Paul struck out a career-high nine hitters in his complete-game, three-hit shutout in Covenant's 5-0 win over Emory & Henry on Saturday. The outing was also Paul's first career nine-inning complete-game.
5-0: For a second year in a row, the baseball team has started the season by winning its first five games. The Scots swept Emory & Henry in a three-game series for the second consecutive season that enabled the Scots to start 5-0.
21: Men's basketball players Berto Dryden and Ben Phelps had career games in two wins for the Scots on the week. Dryden tied a career-high with 21 points in a 79-68 comeback win at Piedmont on Wednesday, while Phelps set a career-high with 21 points in Saturday's 85-55 rout at Huntingdon.
0: Number of runs allowed by the softball pitching staff in Saturday's doubleheader sweep at Wesleyan. The Lady Scots allowed just nine hits combined in the two games as Joni Johnson (complete-game) picked up the win in the first contest before Cris Gant and Carsyn Stone combined for the shutout in game two.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Trenton Nobles came through with a walk-off single, his first career hit, to cap a two-run seventh inning lifting the Scots to a 6-5 win over Emory & Henry on Friday.
THE ROAD AHEAD:
Covenant travels to Oglethorpe on Tuesday for a single-game against the Petrels starting at 6 p.m. The Scots then head to Memphis for the Rhodes Classic this weekend and will face Huntingdon (Friday at noon), Rhodes (Friday at 3 p.m.) and Webster (Saturday at noon).
The Scots will host Maryville on Saturday at 4 p.m. for Senior Day.
The women play Meredith on Tuesday in Mars Hill, N.C., at 8:15 p.m. in a makeup from Jan. 23. The Scots then host Wesleyan (Wednesday at 7 p.m.) and Maryville (Saturday at 2 p.m.) to conclude the regular season.
The Lady Scots host Berea (Friday at 1 p.m.) and Mount St. Joseph (Saturday at 1 p.m.) for doubleheaders this weekend.
Covenant opens USA South play at N.C. Wesleyan (Friday at 2 p.m.) and Methodist (Saturday at noon).
