HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Check out Will Portlock's buzzer-beating jumper that gave the men's basketball team a 79-77 victory at William Peace on Friday (video courtesy of William Peace Sports Information).
BY THE NUMBERS:
3: Number of overtimes in the women's basketball team's 75-71 victory at William Peace on Friday. It was the first three-overtime game in program history and the first multi-overtime game since Feb. 13, 2004 at Bluefield--a 90-79 victory.
56: Number of total points the men's basketball team has outscored its opponents by in the second half of its nine victories this year. The Scots rallied from a nine-point deficit at halftime at N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday by outscoring the Bishops by 15 in the second period to earn a 77-71 win.
7: Number of double-doubles on the year for women's basketball freshman Joanna Smith. Smith has registered four straight such games against USA South foes and averaged 16 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games last week.
17: Men's basketball freshman Bailey Spragg scored a career-high 17 points in Covenant's 79-77 win at William Peace on Friday. Spragg then scored 11 against N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday. His previous career-high in points was seven entering last week.
THE ROAD AHEAD:
The first-place Scots will travel to rival Maryville on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip. Covenant then travels to Danville, Va., on Saturday to square off with Averett at 2 p.m.
Covenant will travel to USA South foes Mary Baldwin (Friday at 5 p.m.) and Meredith (Saturday at 2 p.m.).
