LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by First Bank, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of January are women's basketball junior Hannah Monday and men's basketball junior Will Crumly.
The Covenant Athletes of the Month is an initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. It is the first time this season that Monday and Crumly have earned honors.
Monday, a junior from Wildwood, Ga., averaged 12.3 points, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field, with 7.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.5 blocks per game in the month. The junior scored in double figures six times, including 19 points in a game at LaGrange on Jan. 8, and grabbed at least six rebounds in a game seven times. She had a career-high five blocks against Berea on Jan. 21 and tallied three-plus blocks in a contest five times.
On the year, Monday is averaging 12.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Crumly, a junior from Marietta, Ga., tallied 15.9 points, on 58 percent shooting, with 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game to help the Scots to a 6-3 month. The junior had double-digit point totals in all but one game in January and finished the month with three straight 20-plus point games, including 28 in a win over Berea on Jan. 28. Crumly had three double-doubles during the month as he grabbed 13 rebounds in a game twice.
During January, Crumly was named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List as one of the top players in small college basketball. For the year, Crumly averages 16.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He ranks third in the USA South in rebounding and sixth in scoring.
