LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by First Bank, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of November are women's cross country sophomore S.K. Lipperd and men's cross country senior Brendan Yeager.
The Covenant Athletes of the Month is an initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. It is the second career honor for Lipperd and the first selection for Yeager.
Lipperd, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., capped a strong cross country season in two meets during November. She had a fourth place finish at the USA South Championships on Nov. 2 with a then-personal record time of 23:41.8 in the 6k before breaking her career-best mark with a time of 23:32.3 and a 52nd place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Region meet on Nov. 16. Lipperd's time at the NCAA Region meet was the ninth-best 6k time in program history.
Lipperd's finish at the USA South meet earned her a spot on the All-USA South first team. In each of Lipperd's final three events of the year, she eclipsed personal records in the 6k.
Yeager, a senior from Ballwin, Mo., finished his debut season of college cross country with All-USA South and All-Region performances. The senior opened the month with a sixth place finish and 8k time of 26:02.7, the third-fastest time in program history, at the USA South Championships on Nov. 2 as he earned first team All-USA South. Two weeks later, Yeager became the first Scot since 2014 to earn All-Region accolades after placing 35th with a time of 26:13.2 at the NCAA South/Southeast Region meet on Nov. 16.
During the year, Yeager earned three of the top seven 8k times in program history. His 35th place finish at the NCAA region meet tied for the second highest in program history.
