LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by First Bank, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of August/September are women's soccer junior Kyra Duble and men's soccer senior Josh Brower.
The Covenant Athletes of the Month is an initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. It is the first time that Duble and Brower have received honors.
Duble, a junior from Lookout Mountain, Ga., scored five goals, including a game-winner, during the first month of the season. The junior scored twice in the second half of Covenant's 5-4 loss on Sept. 7, while also adding scores in three other contests. She had the eventual game-winner in the Lady Scots' 2-0 Homecoming victory over Brevard to open USA South play. Duble ended the month with another goal in a 3-0 win over Oglethorpe on Sept. 30.
Duble ranks eighth in the USA South in goals scored and 12th in total points (10).
Brower, a senior from Birmingham, Ala., has been a key to the men's soccer team's strong start to the season. The senior totaled five goals and eight assists during the month, ranking in the top 10 nationally in assists. Brower recorded four assists, the most for a Covenant player since 2004, in a 6-1 victory over Southern Virginia on Aug. 31, and had six assists through the season's first three matches. He scored a goal in four straight matches from Sept. 7-21, with two of those becoming game-winners against USA South foes.
Brower currently leads the USA South in assists (8) and is third in total points (20).
