LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by Atlantic Capital, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of March are women's track and field freshman S.K. Lipperd and men's tennis freshman Tyler Kelly.

The Covenant Athletes of the Month is a new initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. It is the first time that Lipperd and Kelly have received honors.

Lipperd, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., had a strong month as the outdoor season kicked into full gear. The freshman set individual program records in both the 400 and 800 meter events during the month. Lipperd broke the program's 800 meter record with a time of 2:21.16 and placed third overall at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. In her only 400 meter event of the month, Lipperd set a program record with a time of 1:03.15 at the Rhodes Invitational. Lipperd was named USA South Track Rookie of the Week on March 11.

Lipperd has also been a key member of relay teams for the Scots and helped the team to a pair of program records in March. She was part of the distance medley relay squad that won the event at the Emory Invitational with a record time of 12:50.57. In the 4x800 at the Rhodes Invitational, Lipperd assisted the team in a program-best time of 10:01.73.

Kelly, a freshman from Douglasville, Ga., went a combined 12-2 between singles and doubles matches during the month of March. The freshman was 7-1 in singles play and recorded a 5-1 mark in doubles as the Scots went 6-2. In singles, Kelly played spots 3-6 in the lineup during the month and had a six-match win streak. Included in that stretch was a win over Berry's Jonas Frank on March 20. In doubles, Kelly teamed with Ben Luke to go 5-1 in the month as the duo won four USA South matches and took down the No. 3 doubles team from Berry.

For the year, Kelly is 14-4 in singles (11-3 in dual matches). Kelly's 14 singles wins leads the team and is one win shy of breaking a Covenant freshman record.
