LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by Atlantic Capital, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of February are women's basketball senior Joanna Smith and men's basketball sophomore Will Crumly.

The Covenant Athletes of the Month is a new initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. It is the third time this year that Smith has been honored, and the second for Crumly.

Smith, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., finished out her collegiate career by averaging 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game to help the Scots reach the USA South Tournament. She had a season-high tying 24 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, to go with 14 rebounds in a narrow loss at Maryville on Feb. 6. In a USA South Tournament first round game, Smith totaled 19 points and three rebounds.

Smith finished the season averaging a career-high 13 points to go with 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.1 percent from the field. Smith earned All-USA South West Division second team honors. For her career, Smith ends with 1,246 points (14th in program history) and 876 rebounds (fourth in program history).

Crumly, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., had a strong end to a phenomenal season. The forward averaged 21.4 points, shooting 62.2 percent from the floor, with 7.0 rebounds during the month to help the Scots to a USA South West Division regular season title. Crumly scored in double figures in seven of the eight games during the month, including 32 points in a win at LaGrange on Feb. 2. Crumly had 26 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Berea on Feb. 13, and 20 points in a division-clinching win at Piedmont on Feb. 9.

Crumly was named the USA South Player of the Year and was a first team All-USA South honoree after averaging 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. His play led the Scots to their first conference regular season title in 55 seasons and the best winning percentage in a single-season in program history.
