LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by Atlantic Capital, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of November are women's cross country senior Lilly Smith and men's basketball sophomore Will Crumly.

The Covenant Athletes of the Month is a new initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. It is the second time this year that Smith has been honored, and the first for Crumly.

Smith, a senior from Weaverville, N.C., capped one of the best seasons for a runner in program history during the month of November. The senior placed ninth overall with a time of 22:57.6 at the NCAA South/Southeast Region meet on Nov. 10 to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships. At the national meet a week later in Winneconne, Wis., Smith blasted her own program record in the 6k with her mark of 22:34.8 to finish 104th, out of 279 runners, in the country.

Smith became the first Covenant runner to earn a berth in a NCAA Championship meet. For the year, Smith collected a second straight USA South Runner of the Year award while also earning first team All-USA South. She claimed four individual titles during the year and was a four-time USA South Runner of the Week honoree.

Crumly, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., had a strong start to the season as he posted 21.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game in five games during the month of November. The sophomore opened the year by recording his first career double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds in an overtime loss at Birmingham Southern (Nov. 10). In a road win at Maryville (Nov. 27), Crumly registered a career-high 28 points, on 12-of-16 shooting, with nine rebounds. He then capped the month with 25 points and 12 rebounds in a win over LaGrange (Nov. 30).

For the year, Crumly is averaging 21.7 points, while shooting 58.4 percent from the field, with 9.0 rebounds per game. He currently ranks second in the USA South in scoring average and third in rebounding.
