LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant Athletes of the Month sponsored by Atlantic Capital, the official bank of the Covenant Scots, for the month of October are women's soccer senior Rachel Lemay and men's soccer junior Paul Lemay.
The Covenant Athletes of the Month is a new initiative aiming to recognize the best female and male athletes and their performances during a month. The Lemay siblings are the first monthly honorees from their respective programs this year.
Rachel Lemay, a senior from Apopka, Fla., helped lead the women's soccer team to the semifinals of the USA South Tournament with a stellar month of October. The senior went 7-2 with six shutouts, 48 saves, and a goals against average of 0.77 during the month. Lemay had double-digit saves in a match twice during the month, with 10 in a 1-0 win at Brevard on Oct. 6 and 16 saves in a loss to Emory on Oct. 17. Against conference opponents, Lemay allowed just four goals and compiled six shutouts during the month.
For her efforts during the month and the entire year, Lemay earned USA South Goalkeeper of the Year honors and was a first team All-USA South and All-West Division selection.
Paul Lemay, a junior from Apopka, Fla., produced a 6-1 record with three complete shutouts during the month to help the Scots reach the USA South Tournament championship match. Lemay's play was key as the Scots tallied four consecutive shutouts during the month, the longest shutout streak for the program since 1994. He had six saves in a road win at Methodist on Oct. 6 that began a seven-match win streak for Covenant, a streak that saw Lemay surrender just three goals.
Lemay's play during the entire year led to a second team All-USA South selection for the junior.
