LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant College athletic department hosted the inaugural Highlander Cup, presented by the Scots Athletic Club, on Saturday, April 21 at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club.
The event was presented by the Scots Athletic Club, Covenant's new booster club initiative which exists to financially support the athletic department in its mission to seek, explore, and express the preeminence of Christ in intercollegiate athletics by cultivating disciples and pursuing excellence.
"It was great fun to see the success of this event in its first year as we were able to raise money to support the mission of the athletic department at Covenant," said director of athletics Tim Sceggel. "Events like these are essential to our future success as we seek to cultivate disciples and pursue excellence."
The event was organized by head men's soccer coach Scott Bosgraf in conjunction with Sceggel, head golf coach Tom Schreiner, and junior Rachel Lemay. Participants were treated to lunch on the Covenant campus and then paired up for a round of golf at the picturesque Lookout Mountain Golf Club.
"I'm so thankful to the participants in the golf outing on Saturday. The support we receive from them and others through prayer, giving, and attendance at events like these will deeply impact the experience of our student athletes," added Sceggel.
The golf was excellent, too. The foursome of Schreiner, Marc Erickson, Troy Duble, and Ross Ballanger won the tournament in a one-hole playoff.
Plans are under way for the 2019 edition of the Highlander Cup. An official date will be announced soon.
