LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Scots basketball team finished their regular season with a winning record, playing their final two games. The women’s basketball team also finished their regular season with a win. Men’s and women’s tennis began its season with a tough loss, and Scots baseball won another doubleheader. Softball suffered two defeats on the week.
Several athletic events were postponed this week due to weather on the mountain. Baseball had a game against Tennesse Temple postponed, softball had a home duobleheader against Maryville also rained out, while women's tennis was rained out at Wesleyan.
Women’s basketball junior Jessie Blankenship helped ensure a 76-61 victory over Warren Wilson by scoring 23 points. The Lady Scots end the regular season with a 13-10 record. They will now head to the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament on March 7. Haley Soles made five three-pointers and totaled 19 points. Ruth Gibson followed closely with 16 points. Warren Wilson recap
Men’s basketball began the week by losing to Emory 75-50. Sam Bowman once again played a great game with 16 points and eight rebounds. Colton McGriff added 10 points for the Scots. The Scots’ regular season finale came against Huntingdon on the road and Covenant took a 69-60 win. Nate Frierson had a fantastic night, scoring a career-high of 15 points along with three steals and three rebounds. Colton McGriff had 12 points and Callum Sears and Bowman tied at 11 points each. The Scots baseball team continued its hot start to the season with two wins over Milligan College, which moves Covenant to 6-1. Game one had Covenant win 9-4. K.C. Simons, Will Cleland, David Lockwood, Sterling Witt, and Perry Rigby each had two hits. Garrett Kriston (1-0) earns the win, allowing only two hits in 3.2 scoreless innings. Game two had Covenant win 6-5 after trailing 3-0 in the top of the fifth. Micah Mabe (3-0) got his third win of the season after going five innings and giving up only three runs and three strikeouts. The men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Berry for their first match of spring. Freshman Katharine Redberg won her first set 7-5, but fell in the other two sets. For the men, Roy Anderson, Jeffrey Cox, Tim Ahrenholz, and Jonathan Turner all lost, but scored points against Berry. Recap
Lady Scots softball had another tough doubleheader defeat as Point took game one 11-1 before winning the second game 6-1. Cori Hilt (0-1) had four strikeouts, but gets the loss for the game. Jenni Jobe doubled and made it home after a single by Madison Quirk. The second game was closer, 6-1 and Grace Hooper (0-2) pitched four innings and gets saddled with the loss. In the bottom of the first, Morgan Booker scored from Jobe a Jobe single to earn Covenant’s lone run. Point recap
