ATLANTA, Ga. -- Volleyball setter Stephanie Kirkpatrick and cross country runner Beth Burgess have been named Great South Athletic Conference Players of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday.
Kirkpatrick is the second straight Lady Scots volleyball player to earn the weekly award as Chelsea Van Dyk was honored last week. The sophomore from Huntsville, Ala., tallied 110 assists in three matches last week, including 52 in a loss to Piedmont. Kirkpatrick also had 13 digs in the Piedmont match. During the week, Kirkpatrick averaged 10 assists per set. Kirkpatrick ranks 15th in the NCCAA in assists per set at 9.19.
A sophomore from Nicholasville, Ky., Burgess turned in another solid performance for the women's cross country team on Saturday. Burgess finished sixth individually, just seconds behind the fourth and fifth place finishers, at the Carson-Newman Invitational with a 5k time of 20:52. The last two events, Burgess has been Covenant's top finisher and her run this week helped the Lady Scots to third place team finish out of eight participants.
