LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Over the last few weeks, Covenant athletic programs and student-athletes have volunteered their time packing lunches for elementary and middle school age children in Walker County, Georgia.

Women's basketball, men's basketball and men's soccer helped prepare meal bags through Backpack Blessings, a program associated with the North Georgia Community YMCA.

The backpack blessings program provides nutritious, non-perishable food items to students each Friday to reduce weekend hunger and help prepare for Monday's learning in the classroom. The program serves six elementary and middle schools in Walker County.

The teams spent time preparing meals to be delivered later.

"Our time at Backpack Blessings went very well," head women's basketball coach Sarah Harris said. "We were glad for the opportunity to help and serve for this program."

Anyone interested in volunteering with Backpack Blessings should contact the North Georgia Community YMCA office or hungerfree@ymcachattanooga.org
