LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Two Covenant basketball plays from the month of November can be voted on as the USA South's Play of the Month. Chris Boyd's block against Division I Liberty on Nov. 13 is the men's basketball nominee, while Joanna Smith's driving layup against Berry on Nov. 13 is in the running for the women's basketball play of the month.
Boyd's block is up against plays from Greensboro, LaGrange, Maryville, North Carolina Wesleyan, Piedmont and William Peace. Smith's driving layup and foul is being voted against a play from Averett.
Voting is done exclusively by fans and will conclude on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. when the winner will be announced.
The USA South introduced this new endeavor for the 2015-16 basketball seasons as each month a "Men's Basketball Play of the Month" and "Women's Basketball Play of the Month" will be chosen. For each of the four months during the regular season, dynamic plays will be submitted by the coaching staffs of each institution. The winners are chosen by fan voting and will be featured both on the USA South website and its social networking outlets (Twitter / YouTube / Instagram). At the end of the season, each monthly winner will be nominated for Play of the Year.
