It was a big week in Covenant athletics. Get caught up with all the action with this week's edition of Scots Weekly.

BY THE NUMBERS:

2: Number of team victories for both men's and women's cross country teams this year. With titles at the Saucony Invitational on Saturday, the teams have won two of their first three events of the season.

12: Number of USA South weekly awards earned in the first two weeks by Covenant student-athletes. Cross country teams have won all four of the conference's weekly awards for that sport in each of the first two weeks, while men's soccer has had the first two player of the week honorees. Women's soccer had a player of the week last week in Anna Porch and volleyball's Chloe Carlson earned defensive player of the week honors in week one.

7: Current home winning streak for the volleyball team. The Lady Scots have not lost inside Barnes PE Center since October 15, 2013 against Maryville. Within the win streak, Covenant has won 21 of 24 sets played.

FIRSTS:

  • Men's soccer senior Roy Anderson and freshman Andrew Jablon each recorded their first collegiate scores in Covenant's 4-0 win over Sewanee last Friday.
  • Men's soccer goalkeeper Daniel Kubin registered his first career shutout in that 4-0 win at Sewanee. Kubin made five saves in the victory.
  • Anna Porch became the first women's soccer player to earn national player of the week honors from the NSCAA. Porch was named the organization's Division III women's player of the week last Tuesday after recording five goals and an assist in the previous week.
  • Volleyball freshman Christina Argaez recorded her first collegiate double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs in Covenant's 3-0 win over Sewanee last Tuesday

NOTES:

  • USA South play opens this week. Men's and women's soccer hosts Greensboro (Friday) and Ferrum (Saturday), while volleyball will host defending conference champion Maryville on Friday.
  • The 2013-14 USA South Sportsmanship Trophy will be presented to Covenant before the men's soccer match on Saturday at 2 p.m. ... Covenant had five teams win their sport's sportsmanship award last academic year.
  • Tuesday features a doubleheader of home events as men's soccer hosts Oglethorpe at 7 p.m., while volleyball hosts Trevecca Nazarene at 7 p.m. ... Only the volleyball match will feature live video... Both contests will have live stats (check schedule pages for links).
