Davidson named 2nd team CoSIDA Academic All-America
Covenant men's soccer senior Snoopy Davidson has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® second team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Davidson was one of 33 student-athletes from across NCAA Division III to be recognized on one of the three All-America teams. He becomes the first student-athlete from Covenant to earn Academic All-America honors from the Capital One/CoSIDA program.
A senior from Rome, Georgia, Davidson was also named USA South Player of the Year earlier this month and ended the season leading the team with 12 goals and six assists, despite missing five matches due to an injury in late September and early October. Davidson led the Scots to their first USA South tournament championship and a berth into the NCAA tournament. He was named USA South tournament MVP after tallying three goals in three matches in the tournament.
Davidson is majoring in Economics and has an overall GPA of 3.71. He has been on Covenant's Dean's List and Athletic Honor Roll in each of his first two semesters.
Covenant 2nd in fall standings for USA South President's Cup
Following the conclusion of the 2014-2015 fall season of USA South competition, the current standings for the Overall, Men's and Women's President's Cups have been released. This year will mark the tenth the USA South will present an Overall, a Men's and a Women's President's Cup. Currently, Maryville College has the lead in the overall and men's cup standings while Meredith College has the lead in the women's cup standings.
Covenant sits in second place overall after strong finishes to the fall sports season. The Scots accumulated 43 points, just 5.5 behind Maryville for the overall lead. In the Men's President's Cup standings, the Scots are third behind Methodist and Maryville. Covenant is also third in the Women's standings trailing Maryville and Meredith.
Covenant claimed two USA South titles in the fall with men's cross country and men's soccer earning titles. The championship for men's cross country was its second in a row, while the men's soccer crown was the first in the Division III era for the program.
- Several women's basketball players set career-highs in points over the past week. Morgan Woodward scored 18 points and Rachel Price had 12 points on Saturday vs. Hanover. Alex Quimby registered 13 points on Friday against Transylvania.
- Men's basketball junior Chris Boyd scored a career-high 16 points to go along with career-bests of five assists and three steals in a loss at Birmingham Southern on Saturday.
- Men's basketball hosts its home opener on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. vs. Oglethorpe
- After Tuesday, both basketball teams will be idle until after Thanksgiving Break
