Streufert, Bales Win All-American Honorable Mentions


Hannah BalesGREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior Dana Streufert and freshman Hannah Bales have received one more nod from the National Christian College Athletic Association as the NCCAA National Office announced the members of the 2011 All-American team Thursday.  The two Lady Scots, who were acknowledged as honorable mentions, had a major influence toward the success of the women’s soccer program, which boasted a 10-9-2 overall record and claimed the Mid-East region

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 12 (Nov. 14-19)


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- This week at Covenant marked the official start to the winter season of basketball, and to kick it off, hundreds of students came out for the “Royal Blue-Out” at the men’s and women’s first game.  Meanwhile, men’s and women’s soccer, as well as volleyball, all competed in their NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament but were unable to advance into the national tournament stage.

 

Kara Lee and Tyler Morrison Win NCCAA Soccer Players of the Week


GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The National Christian College Athletic Association has named Covenant’s Kara Lee and Tyler Morrison as the soccer players of the week for the week ending Nov. 19.  Despite falling in the Mid-East region finals, Lee and Morrison led their team there, where they fell one win shy of a berth to the national tournament.

Asbury Takes Mid-East Final over Lady Scots


NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Saturday evening, the Lady Scots soccer team played in the finals of the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament against Asbury University.  Covenant was able to score an equalizer in the first half, but another goal from the Lady Eagles helped Asbury secure its 2-1 victory and the 2011 Mid-East region title.  Asbury’s record improves to 13-8-1, while Covenant ends their season at 10-9-2 and 6-1-1 in the Great South.

Covenant Defeats Trevecca-Nazarene, Advances to Finals with Newsome’s Golden Goal


Katelyn NewsomeNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant women’s soccer team needed overtime but came away victorious, 2-1, in the semifinals of the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament Friday.  The Lady Scots played their first game of the season against Trevecca Nazarene University and tied 1-1.  In today’s rematch, Covenant repeated the 90-minute draw but was able to score in overtime to beat the #1 Lady Trojans 2-1.  The Lady Scots record is now 10-8-2 as they advance into the finals, which will be played against Asbury University Saturday at 5 p.m.

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- While Covenant’s golf and cross country programs have concluded their fall seasons, the Scots volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer teams have been gearing up for the 2011 postseason.  Action will commence Thursday, Nov. 17 as the Lady Scots volleyball team will begin pool play at Oakland City University.  Friday will feature more from the volleyball team along with semifinal matchups for each of Covenant’s soccer teams.  Results will be posted on Covenant’s schedule pages as well as the athletic website of the host institution.  Additional information can

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 11 (Nov 7-12)


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Week 11 for Covenant athletics was not very busy with the transition between fall and winter sports happening.  Women’s soccer played and won its first playoff game and will advance to the second round.  Men’s basketball lost their exhibition game against NCAA DI Coastal Carolina.  And the men’s and women’s cross country season came to a close as they did well in the NCCAA National Championship meet.

 

Lady Scots Win Opening Round Playoff 8-0


Katelyn NewsomeLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- On a very chilly and windy Tuesday night, the Lady Scots soccer team played Tennessee Temple University in the opening round of the 2011 NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament.  Covenant dominated the game, allowing no goals for Temple and scoring eight of its own.  Freshman Bethany Logan claimed two of those goals

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 10 (Oct. 31 – Nov. 5)


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Week 10 was full of senior nights as the Covenant volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer teams had their final regular season matches at home.  On Tuesday night, the Lady Scots volleyball team closed out its 2011 home campaign with a great match against Tennessee Wesleyan College.  The following evening, the women’s basketball team had their first official exhibition game against a club team from the Dominican Republic.  Men’s and women’s soccer then finished off the week by playing Berry College in their senior nights.
