Jordan Agate makes All Conference Team and All tournament team for Lady Scots Golf
For a brief moment on the back nine today in the final round of the women's AAC conference tournament, it looked like the Scots freshman might shock the AAC by winning the event in her first year.
Agate entered the final nine holes all tied with Megan Cox of Tennessee Wesleyan and two shots ahead of eventual winner, Natalie Foster of Tennessee Wesleyan. Following a bogey on #10 and a great par save on #11, Agate had a one shot lead over Cox and Foster. "The wind was blowing very briskly at times and the fairways were soaked so the course was playing very long, " said Coach Schreiner who accompanied Agate for the entire 36 holes. "I knew Jordan was aware of where she stood with Megan but I also knew that she had no idea what Natalie was doing. We simply tried to stay focus on one shot at a time, " the Scots coach remarked.
However, the difficult par 4 12th hole took its toll on the Scots leader as she drove the ball in the hazard, and after taking a drop, hit into the hazard again. "I actually made a great up and down to save my 8," Agate said with a smile. "It's one of those things that just happens and you try to move on, which I think I did pretty well." Jordan concluded 17 and 18 with very makeable birdie putts but settled for par on both to finish with a second round 86, 5 shots off the winning total by Natalie Foster of 162. Megan Cox finished her senior year by making birdie on the final hole for a 83, two day total of 163.
"I am as proud of Jordan's effort this week as I can be," said Schreiner. "She executed so many mature shots, I really don't think she knows how well she played. She nearly chipped in three or four times, and played the entire tournament without a 3 putt. I hope our guys take a lesson from that next week in their conference tournament."
Jordan finished the year ranked #3 in the AAC women's player of the year point system.
