Covenant Basketball Adds Elizabeth Bell

Lookout Mountain, GA- Coach Corey Mullins has added Elizabeth Bell to the 2012-2013 roster.  Bell is a 5’7 forward from Praise Academy in Powder Springs, GA. 

Blankenship Named NCCAA All-Region


Jessie BlankenshipLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The NCCAA announced its Mid-East Women's Basketball All-Region team recently and Covenant sophomore forward Jessie Blankenship was named to the first team for her outstanding performance and leadership during the 2011-12 season. 

 

Blankenship led the Scots in three statistical categories: 14.0 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, and 47 percent shooting from the field.  She also led the team off the floor as a team captain. Because Blankenship was in the top three in voting, she will also be eligible for NCCAA All-American voting.

Lady Scots' Season Ends With Loss


Margaret CrossCHATTANOOGA -- The 2011-12 basketball season came to an end for the Covenant Lady Scots on Thursday night with a 70-55 loss to Tenneessee Temple in the quarterfinal round of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament.

 

Tennessee Temple advances to the semifinal round where they will take on top-seeded Bluefield College. The Lady Scots end the season with an overall record of 6-20.

NCCAA Basketball Region Tournaments Set


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Postseason basketball is upon us as both Covenant teams will be competing in their respective NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournaments later this week. The men’s tournament is being hosted by Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn., Thursday-Saturday, while the women’s tournament is also being held the same days at Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga.

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 23 (Feb. 20-25)


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- A busy schedule of competitions for Covenant this week as the spring and winter sports are playing at the same time for now. The men’s and women’s basketball teams finished their regular season games, while men’s and women’s tennis, and softball had their first events of the season.

Lady Scots Beat Salem from Downtown


Margaret CrossLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Lady Scots basketball team finished out the regular season with a rescheduled game against the Salem College Spirits on Saturday afternoon. Margaret Cross and Terah Hooper combined to bury 10 3-pointers to help give Covenant a 65-47 win over the Spirits.

The two squads were supposed to meet back on January 28, but that game had to be called off.

The opening minutes of the first half were back and forth as Salem scored and Covenant responded.

Sears and Woodward Lead Covenant Basketball Teams in GSAC Honors


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Great South Athletic Conference announced its men’s and women’s basketball All-Conference awards on Thursday afternoon. Junior Callum Sears was recognized as an All-Conference player as well as an All-Academic performer on the men’s side, while Morgan Woodward took All-Freshman and Sportsmanship honors on the women’s side.

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 22 (Feb. 13-18)


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The weeks seem to be flying by as men’s baseball has started out strong and women’s softball will be starting shortly. The women’s basketball team played two very good GSAC teams and their record now moves to 5-18 overall and 4-11 in the GSAC. The men’s basketball team has only one more regular game this season and is 7-17 overall and 2-6.

Berry Pulls Away From Lady Scots in 2nd Half


Jessie BlankenshipROME, Ga. -- The Lady Scots hit the road on Tuesday night to face Berry College in a rematch of the opening game of the year that was won by Berry. Although the Lady Scots hung with the Lady Vikings, Covenant was unable to come up with the win as Berry pulled out a 74-60 victory.

A rough start to the game didn’t help the Lady Scots as Berry took a quick 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. Berry extended its lead to 13-1 before Covenant recovered to bring the score to 18-11 thanks in large part to two 3-pointers from Ruth Gibson.

Lady Scots Fall on Road to Agnes Scott


Morgan WoodwardDECATUR, Ga. -- Behind a great defensive effort, the Agnes Scott Scotties came away with a 55-31 win over Covenant Saturday afternoon in GSAC action. With the win, Agnes Scott moves to 8-15 overall and 7-9 in conference play, while the Lady Scots fall to 5-18 and 4-11 in GSAC games.

Covenant took possession right from the start as Jessie Blankenship connected on a jumper just moments into the contest. Agnes Scott quickly retaliated scoring seven straight points of its own before another Blankenship jumper made it 7-4 at the 16:56 mark of the first half.
