FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Covenant cross country teams garnered three weekly USA South honors this week as men's freshman Caleb Aikens was named the Rookie Runner of the Week and Runner of the Week, while junior Lilly Smith claimed the women's Runner of the Week award.
The two honors for Aikens are the first of his career and the runner of the week nod is Smith's third of her collegiate career.
Aikens, a freshman from Crossville, Tenn., made his collegiate racing debut on Friday and placed seventh overall at the Georgia NCAA Division III Invitational at Berry College. The freshman posted an 8k time of 27:38.10 to pace the Scots to a third place finish overall.
Smith, a junior from Weaverville, N.C., placed ninth out of 72 runners at the Georgia NCAA Division III Invitational hosted by Berry College last week. Smith completed the 6k course in a time of 24:48.56, helping the Scots to a third place team finish.
Covenant will have the week off before competing in the Falcon Classic, hosted by Montevallo, on Saturday. Sept. 16.
