LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- After placing second at the USA South Championships two weeks ago, the Covenant cross country teams will be back in action at the NCAA South/Southeast Regionals on Saturday in Winchester, Va., at the Kernstown Battlefield. Shenandoah University will serve as the host institution.
The meets will start at 11 a.m. with the women's 6k followed by the men's 8k at 12:30.
The men, led by freshman Micah Sneller, will be looking to improve upon a 14th place finish at last year's event. Sneller has been outstanding all year as he picked up USA South Rookie of the Year honors before winning the individual title in the conference meet. Fellow freshmen Reed Vaughn and Nathan Bierema have also run well during the year and junior Phil Moore is coming off a personal record in the 8k two weeks ago. Senior Hunter Rasmussen also set a personal best in the USA South Championships and will look to end his career on a high note.
On the women's side, the Lady Scots were 18th in the 2014 event and hope to climb higher this season. Seniors Ruthie Cargill and Spookie Eaves have set the pace throughout the year, but the squad has also seen significant contributions from freshmen Lilly Smith and Stephanie Lutz. All four of those runners earned All-USA South honors with their finishes at the USA South Championships.
