LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Saturday with an 8-1 loss in the USA South Tournament championship to Methodist at McCluskey Tennis Center in LaGrange.

Covenant ends the year with a 14-8 overall record. Methodist (17-6) will advance to the NCAA Tournament in May.

The loss also ends the careers of seniors Claire Luger and Gracie Smith. Smith ends with 53 career singles wins to set the program record. Luger, who was named to the All-Tournament team after going 2-1 in both singles and doubles play in the tournament, finishes with 39 career singles wins. Both players tallied 52 career doubles wins to set program marks.

Covenant hung with the regionally-ranked Monarchs through doubles play. Annie DeLuca and Jennie Spielman took down Riley Zopp and Audrey Greeson in a tiebreak 9-8 (7-4) to cut the Covenant deficit to 2-1. Methodist took both matches at the top two spots to grab the lead heading into singles play.

Methodist was able to take all six singles matches to take the victory.

The 14 wins are the third-most in program history, while the Lady Scots also captured their first USA South regular season title.
