LAGRANGE, Ga. -- For the first time in program history, the Covenant women's tennis team has claimed a conference title. The Lady Scots completed an unbeaten regular season conference record with an 8-1 victory at LaGrange on Saturday to win the USA South West Division title.

Covenant (12-7, 7-0 USA South) will be the No. 1 seed from the West in next week's USA South Tournament in LaGrange, Ga. It is the first perfect regular season conference record for Covenant and the Lady Scots have won 17 straight USA South regular season matches going back to last year. The Lady Scots will open tournament play on Thursday, April 13.

After dropping a match at No. 1 doubles, Covenant eased past LaGrange for the victory. On the year, the Lady Scots only dropped five points in conference play.

Claire Luger and Gracie Smith collected their 50th career doubles wins with an 8-4 victory over Liz Minick and Denney Meigs at the No. 2 spot. Annie DeLuca and Jennie Spielman gave Covenant a 2-1 match lead with their 7-2 victory at the third spot.

Covenant then had little trouble with the host Panthers in singles play. Aly Hall produced 6-1, 6-2 win over Jenna Eppes at No. 1, while DeLuca picked up her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 against Elizabeth Knott. Luger defeated Minick 6-4, 6-2 at the third position and Esther Eddy was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 4 over Jia Lee.

Smith and Mackenzie Jones completed the win for Covenant with victories at Nos. 5 and 6. Smith won 6-0, 6-2 over Meigs and Jones took down Carli Jones 6-3, 7-6 (5).
